.DISCUSSION...
Satellite loops show low clouds banked up along
the foothills in Kern County and extending north to Fresno
County. There is also plenty of thin cirrus passing through
under a zonal flow aloft. 24 hour temperature trends show 1 to 3
degrees cooling across the San Joaquin Valley. Highs today are
forecast to top out around 2 to 5 degrees above climatological
averages for this time of the year. Strong westerly winds are
continuing along the Mojave Slopes where a Wind Advisory remains
in effect through 11 PM this evening.
An upper ridge will begin to build over California on Wednesday.
The ridge will then amplify and shift east through Friday as an
upper trough approaches the coast. Temperatures are forecast to
climb to around 8 to 12 degrees above average on Wednesday then
increase further to around 10 to 15 degrees above on Thursday.
Highs on Friday are expected to nudge down as the Pacific trough
approaches with highs around 8 to 12 degrees above average again.
The trough splits on Saturday with northern energy moving over
the Pacific Northwest and the southern energy settling off the
coast of southern California. Temperatures will lower to around
2 to 5 degrees above average this weekend. Dry weather continues
as there is limited moisture progged over central California at
this time. There will be another increase in winds on Saturday
with strong gusts along the Mojave Slopes and breezy conditions
across the SJ Valley.
